KING OF THE PALACE
TOURNAMENT RULES & REGULATIONS
$40.00 per bowler. Entry fee is waived for a returning King, unless they choose to participate in the qualifying round (see “Seeding Scenario 2”).
League Averages: (applies to handicapped tournaments only)
Each participant needs to bring proof of their current highest fall/winter league average. A league average is considered established after 21 strings. If a bowler does not have a 21 string established average, the previous fall/winter season average will be used.
The 80% handicap is based off of the highest average entered into the tournament. All handicaps are rounded down to the nearest whole pin.
Each participant will bowl 3 strings. An 80% handicap will be applied to each string. Lob and foul lines are observed, warnings will be given by the Tournament Director or his designee. Multiple infractions will result in penalty.
Scenario 1: The top 4 bowlers from the qualifying round will move on to the ladder series as seeds 1,2,3,4. The Returning King from the previous tournament automatically becomes seed 5.
Scenario 2: The King chooses to bowl in the qualifying round for a chance to gain a higher seed position in the ladder series. If the returning King betters their seed position, the 5th place bowler from the qualifying round will become seed 5. A returning King is always guaranteed 5th seed.
If a returning King bowls in the qualifying round, they will pay $15.00 to cover the cost of bowling the qualifier. They do not pay the full $35.00 entry fee.
In the event that there is no returning King, the top 5 bowlers from the qualifying round move on to the ladder series.
Ladder Match Format:
The ladder series consists of 4 matches:
Match 1: Seed 4 vs Seed 5
Match 2: Seed 3 vs Match 1 Winner
Match 3: Seed 2 vs Match 2 Winner
Match 4: Seed 1 vs Match 3 Winner
Each participant will bowl 2 boxes at a time, starting with 1 box on lane 3, and 1 box on lane 4. Lob and foul lines are enforced during the ladder matches. Penalties will be given by the Tournament Director or his designee. An 80% handicap will be applied to each string of the lower-averaged bowler in each match. This handicap is based off of the higher-averaged bowler in each match. Handicaps are adjusted for each match.
Ladder Match Bowling Order:
In a match where there is a Defending King:
First String: The King bowls first, and the opponent bowls second.
Second String: The opponent bowls first, and the King bowls second.
In a match where there is no Defending King:
First String: The higher seed bowls first, lower seed second.
Second String: The lower seed bowls first, higher seed bowls second.
The official score is kept by the Tournament Director, or his designee. Any other scoring done at the score table, or any other location, is considered unofficial.
Qualifier: If there is a tie for any seed position, high single with handicap included will break the tie.
Ladder Match: If there is a tie at the end of a ladder match, there will be a two box tie-breaker round. The low seed will bowl first, rolling one box on each lane, starting on lane 3. There is no handicap in a two box tie breaker round.
Forfeit: If a participant cannot complete a match, due to injury, disqualification or other, the opposing participant wins the match.
Dress Code: Participants are expected to dress appropriately for the tournament: Collared shirt, no hats. Dress pants are encouraged, but "dress shorts" may be accepted at the discretion of the Tournament Director. A tee-shirt may be accepted, at the discretion of the tournament director, if it is a league, home lanes, or championship shirt. The Tournament Director reserves the right to disqualify a participant from the televised matches for improper dress and assign the next qualified bowler to enter in his/her spot.
Deadwood is to be removed by the Tournament Director or his designee. Participants may not remove deadwood themselves.
Warm-Up Boxes are allowed before the start of the qualifying round, and before the start of ladder matches. The number of warm up boxes allowed is at the discretion of the Tournament Director. The Returning King is allowed additional warm up boxes (if they did not participate in the qualifying round).
Grievances regarding the tournament may be made directly to the Tournament Director in person, by phone or by email:
